| If
you have a bug lover or if your daycare is having a bug week
this is a perfect craft to do. It uses a couple of eggs but
depending on the type of bug it can take a few eggs. |
| Step
1: The particular bug that is the example for this
craft is an ant. The first step can possibly be done very
easily or a little more trickier. You have the option of cutting
out a platform for your bug that can be the shape of the bug's
body or simply a rectangle. For the example we have done the
shape of the body. Above is the shape of three circles to
fit three egg shell pieces, if you want to use more than three
egg shell pieces you will want to change the shape. Consider
placing the eggs on the paper as you want them and trace around
them to make your base. |
|
| Step
2: Next you will be cutting out the number of legs
that you would like your bug to have and the number, if any,
of antennae that you would like your bug to have. Again you
can choose any color that you would like. We have done the
colors of the eggs used in the craft and plan on alternating
the color of the egg and leg. The legs and antennae will be
glued to the bug after the egg shell pieces are in place on
the bug body or platform. |
|
| Step
3: Using a Q-tip dipped in glue or simply using the
glue bottle you and your toddler will need to apply glue to
the bottom of the egg shell pieces that you are adding to your
bug. If you are using a lot of pieces it might be a good idea
to place them on the paper after you have glued a few. The glue
will not dry too quickly so if your bug only has three or four
pieces do not stress about having to work fast. |
|
| Step
4: For this step you are simply placing the egg shell
pieces that you applied glue to on to the paper. If you used
the body shape carefully place each egg shell piece where
you wanted. If your child wants to make the bug move a smaller
platform is better and placing them in the center will be
ideal. In this example we show both, but with the other steps
we only show the bug body because all of the other steps will
be the same. Using a platform may be more forgiving with cutting. |
|
| Step
5: The last step is to glue the legs, antennae, and
eyes. Before the glue has dried completely tilt up on the
side of an egg shell piece and place the leg so that part
of it is inside the piece and the rest is outside of it. Then
bend the legs once to give an ant-leg look, crinkle and glue
on the antennae and glue on the eyes or draw them. |

| This
craft is a great way to use extra plastic eggs that you do not
need for Easter and can be done any time of the year. Often
bugs and spring go hand in hand so this craft is usually something
that fits in with themes of daycares and preschools around the
time of Easter. No matter the time of year you can your child
can have a blast making as many egg bugs as you want. |
