| You'll
only need one index card for this craft project but if you
don't have any, you can use thin cardboard from a food box.
This simple craft is so fun and easy for you and your toddler
to do that you may find that you make many trucks. |
| Step
1: Choose a food item box that is about the width
of a toilet paper roll, and cut out half of the front of the
box. Make sure that you keep the half intact because you will
use it for the roof of your truck. This will also create the
bed of your truck, allowing your toddler to keep things in
the back of their pickup truck. It can be a good idea to do
this step prior to having your toddler at the table as scissors
can be tempting to touch. |
|
| Step
2: If you are using an index card first cut it in half,
then take the two halves and cut them in half. This will give
you the four supports that you need for your truck's roof. Keep
in mind that your toddler or you will probably want to color
the supports and that can be easier for a toddler to do when
the index card is still whole. Cut similar sizes out of a food
item box your using, if you don't have an index card. |
|
| Step
3: Help your toddler paste or tape the contraction
paper on to the box and on the roof of their truck. You can
use circles for head lights and rectangles for bumper stickers,
be creative and have fun with it. If you don't have color
construction paper you can use plain paper and have your toddler
color on the paper. If you use plain paper have your little
on color on it first, before you glue or tape it to the truck. |
|
Step
4: You can use black construction paper to cover
your tires, which are the two toilet paper rolls, or have
your toddler color the toilet paper rolls with a black crayon,
or which ever color they would like the color of their pickup
truck's tires to be. Again encourage your little one to be
creative during arts and crafts time. If you plan on coloring
your tires it can be a good idea to use while toilet paper
rolls if you have them. |
|
| Step
5: If your little one hasn't already have them color
the supports. Now it is time to put the truck together. Help
your toddler tape or glue the wheels to the bottom of the truck.
Take your supports and bend the top and bottom of each creating
a half inch tab. Glue or tape the bottom tabs to the truck (leave
a little room for your front engine) Glue or tape the roof to
the top tabs of the supports. You can trim it to fit exactly
if you like or have it have a lip on either side. Now the truck
is done and your toddler can take it out for a spin. |
|
The
finished craft allows your child to have a functioning vehicle.
While the wheels do not move the car guides easily over carpet
and hardwood floors. The back of the truck allows your child
to store whatever they want in the bed of the truck and because
the cab is easily accessible your child can have one of his
or her favorite toy figures do the driving.
